Sober Living Environments for Young Adults

NorthStar is located in the heart of beautiful Central Oregon. Bend is a picturesque resort town situated along the Deschutes River on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountain Range. Bordered by pine forest on the west and high desert on the east, Bend enjoys over 280 days of sunshine annually. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the Northwest, as well as the country. Central Oregon is nationally known for its skiing, mountain and rock climbing, fishing, mountain biking and its outstanding community college, Central Oregon Community College.

It is an excellent setting for our young people to find fun and healthy activities.

Phase I of NorthStar is the residential phase and Phase II of the program is the community living Phase. In Phase I students 18 or older will live in either the Irving House or the Newport House.   Students between the ages of 17.6-18.6 will live in the Swift House.

Swift House - Co-ed, 17.6-18.6 High School completion house
Swift House is approximately 2 miles outside the Bend downtown area, in a quiet rural neighborhood. It is a newer farmhouse styled house, with a wrap around porch and a large deck in the backyard for gatherings and meals. It is on approximately 1/2 acre, with an abundance of lawn, trees, and outdoor basketball area.

Newport House - All male, 18-24 house
The Newport House is halfway between the Irving House and the community college and walking distance to downtown. It is a charming bungalow located on the “west side” of town, probably the most desirable area in Bend.   The Newport house is newly refurbished to create a nice, home-like environment.

Irving House - Co-ed, 18-24 house
Irving House is located only a couple blocks from downtown and next door to the main offices. It is a quaint, English-Tudor style home that in a prior life was a bed and breakfast with nice hard wood floors, three stories and tons of charm and character.

Once students are ready for independent living, they move into Phase II of the NorthStar program.   Students in Phase Two live in the NorthStar Portland Apartments where they have the freedom they desire coupled with the support to handle that freedom.   Students in Phase Two structure their day around school, work or both.  Phase Two students also have regular case management, individual and group therapy, academic advisement and on-going support and tutoring, recreation activities and 12-step support groups that they attend.

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is centrally located in the downtown area of Bend. This is the facility where the students have access to computers, Internet support, individual tutoring, and private study rooms. The academic staff offices are also located there.”
