Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Part of the recovery and treatment program of NorthStar involves the use of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT strongly supports students who are struggling with anxiety, depression and mood fluctuations. DBT teaches students to understand and work with their emotions so that emotions are not controlling the student’s behavior. DBT introduces students to a set of skills that guide students in learning to manage difficult emotions. Students are helped to practice the skills regularly to decrease the likelihood of relapse and increase positive coping.
