Living In Bend, Oregon

Bend is noted for its scenic setting, mild climate, year-round recreational opportunities, and growing economy. Bend got its name from the early pioneers who crossed the Deschutes River at "Farewell Bend". The area became an official city in 1905 with approximately 300 citizens. The community grew when the Oregon Trunk Railroad was complete in 1911 and lumber companies arrived in 1914 which strengthened the local economy. Mt. Bachelor brought skiers and tourism to the area and now Bend is the retail center of Central Oregon. The current population of Bend is just over 70,000 people.

Located near the center of Oregon at the foot of the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains, Bend is the outdoor recreation capitol of Oregon. Visitors and residents to Bend enjoy outdoor activities including golfing, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, camping, fishing, horseback riding and rock climbing. Indoor activities include taking in a movie, play or concert, fine dining, visiting museums, and shopping. Called "the sunny side of Oregon", Bend only averages 12 inches of precipitation per year.
