Aftercare Recovery Programs

NorthStar is an aftercare program designed to continue the therapeutic process after the initial primary care treatment.

The NorthStar program focuses on the unique needs of young adults who have experienced challenges with substance abuse/dependence and with accepting personal responsibility for themselves.

Our two-phase program emphasizes a strong academic component as well as recovery from substance abuse/dependence; responsibility as an integral part of being a young adult, and recreation as an important aspect of living a sober and balanced life.

Recovery:  Substance abuse/dependency recovery is the focal point of NorthStar.  Of primary importance to the young adult in recovery is: a thorough understanding of addiction and relapse prevention skills to recognize emotions and regulate emotional responding, awareness of irresponsible thinking patterns and their connections to substance abuse and an active recreation recreational life to diminish boredom.

Responsibility:  Essential to the young adult learning to accept the responsibility that comes with the freedom and independence he/she craves are: understanding their emotional reactivity in relation to their family; using daily structure in developing healthy habits and behaviors which help them develop independent living skills; using goal-setting and rewards to instill a sense of accomplishment and develop positive self-esteem, developing healthy personal habits to promote responsibility for physical and emotional health.

Recreation:  Boredom is one of the chief struggles for young adults attempting to maintain a sober lifestyle.  NorthStar uses recreation to assist students in learning how to have sober fun and develop positive personal health.  Use of Central Oregon's year-round outdoor recreational opportunities; developing regular exercise routines; development of personal hobbies and interests in order to promote positive mental health and sense of self.
