The most important criteria for acceptance to the NorthStar Center is the student's and their family's willingness to acknowledge the need for change, and expression of the desire to work toward those changes within our program's structure. NorthStar is a year-long program with a minimum six-month commitment by the student and family. We believe the six-month minimum is crucial to the success of our students to allow them time to integrate a whole new concept of themselves as sober, responsible adults. This time also allows the family the time to adjust to a new adult-to-adult relationship with the student.
NorthStar's admission process selectively screens and accepts young men and women, ages 17.6 to 24 years old, on a year-round basis. Students wishing to apply for acceptance may do so by completing the following steps:
- Express interest by initiation of an informational phone call.
- Complete and submit an online application.
- Submit current psychological and educational testing that has been completed within the past 12 months. If necessary, this can be completed at NorthStar. Download a PDF with the required testing information.
- Send transcripts and any other pertinent educational information.
- Sign a release for NorthStar staff to speak with previous care providers.
- Schedule and complete a student telephone interview.
- Set up and complete a 4 hour, on-site interview.
